Stanislaus National Forest in Arnold is a great escape for some camping, hiking and lake-swimming fun. After a quiet drive through the country on Highway 4, you drive into Murphys, a cute little town with excellent wine tastings and touted as the next Napa Valley. There are a handful of great food options but one stands out.
Flip’d Out is full of culinary talent and decorated with charm and thoughtfulness. Chef and owner Beverly Torrez-Petty has culinary chops and passion about the food she is sharing with the community and travelers alike.
She opened the small restaurant in 2015, showcasing her comfort foods and flavors. She has an eclectic background, growing up with her Filipino mom and being exposed to multiple Asian cultures with her Air Force household of neighbors and friends. She created a menu with diverse culinary flavors from around Asia and does a great job of melding the flavors.
There’s a bit of Thai with Green Papaya Salad, intro to Vietnam with Bahn Mi sandwiches, Korean flavors with Kim Chee and of course, Filipino comfort with Adobo and lumpia. Our first visit was all about the pork belly, slowly braised, crispy on the outside and melting on the inside. It was great on the Banh Mi sandwich with pickled daikon to cut through the richness. Total yumminess! Salamat!!
